Derby done

I feel just about defrosted enough to think about putting some thoughts down on paper so to speak about the weekend's football. The first thing to comment on I suppose is the weather, its certainly been one of the main things I've been whinging about and it appeared as well to have an impact on the players towards the end of the match. It was absolutely freezing - forecasts that by the end of the match it would be a balmy 3 degrees sadly never came true!

The match itself had its ups and downs. There were moments where you really found yourself believing the hype that surrounds Villa more and more, and there were times when you were just desperate for someone to get the ball in the back of the net rather than 6 inches above or to the side of it. So so many missed chances!

The important thing was that Villa won, bragging rights remain intact as does their position within the top 4 of the Premiership. I really hope Mr O'Neill buys during this window - on what I saw this weekend Villa needed the squad bolstering if they're going to maintain their 4th position.

But who should Villa buy? I've been thinking about this for a while and no one stands out as a good fit. Attacking wise no one is as fast as Gabi and Ashley, defensively I think you are solid. Midfield is good and your keeper is solid. Would be hard to get someone good enough without spending big bucks and that creates new problems. Maybe try and get a bargain out of city or spurs.

All very good points. I think a little more support up front would be useful - its wonderful watching the development of Gabi and Ashley but if one of them picked up an injury I don't know if Harewood is a strong enough player to fill the gap. Hopefully we won't have to find out! Based on what I saw again on Saturday finishing is still an area to develop, so again an out and out striker with a little more experience may be helpful. As for who that would be though, well I keep drawing a blank.
